Comitas Tramontana Park Menorca Guide
If you've ever looked up at the sky on a clear night and marveled at the countless stars shining above you, imagine experiencing it from a privileged location, without the interference of city lights. At Comitas Tramontana Park, located in Playas de Fornells, you have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular night sky, as we are situated within the Starlight Reserve of Menorca.
What is a Starlight Reserve?
A Starlight Reserve is a protected area where the quality of the night sky is exceptionally preserved, minimizing light pollution so that the stars shine at their brightest. This certification, granted by the Starlight Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, recognizes unique places around the world where stargazing is an incredible experience.
Since 2019, Menorca has been part of this exclusive group of destinations, meaning that, in addition to its stunning beaches and breathtaking landscapes, the island is also an ideal place to see the Milky Way in all its glory and enjoy astronomical events like meteor showers.
A privileged setting in Playas de Fornells
Our hotel, Comitas Tramontana Park, is located in northern Menorca, in Playas de Fornells, within the buffer zone of the Starlight Reserve.
Within the Starlight Reserve, there are two types of zones:
- Core zones, where the natural lighting of the night sky remains virtually untouched. These are the darkest areas with the best conditions for astronomical observation.
- Buffer zones, like the one where our hotel is located, which surround the core zones and have specific regulations to reduce light pollution. Here, artificial lights are carefully managed to ensure they do not interfere with sky visibility, allowing for an incredible stargazing experience without being completely isolated.
In Playas de Fornells, where our hotel is located, light pollution is very low. This means that, as night falls, the sky fills with thousands of stars and planets visible to the naked eye. You don’t need a telescope or special equipment—just a bit of patience and a comfortable lounge chair to marvel at the vastness of the universe.
Our commitment to the night sky
At Comitas Hotels, we know that a starry sky is a treasure, which is why we take measures to protect the quality of the night sky and comply with the Starlight Foundation standards:
- We use warm, low-impact lighting, avoiding white or excessively bright lights.
- Our exterior lighting design minimizes its impact on the sky.
- We provide information to our guests about the importance of reducing light pollution and how they can contribute.
How can you enjoy the night sky at Comitas Tramontana Park?
If you love astronomy (or simply enjoy stargazing), here are some perfect activities:
- Take a blanket to the pool or the hotel garden, turn off your phone, and relax while identifying constellations.
- Check the astronomical calendar before your trip to catch events like meteor showers or eclipses.
- Go for a night walk around the hotel and enjoy the silence and the vast sky.
- Take a night photo with your phone or a camera using long exposure to capture the magic of Menorca’s sky.
